Devraj Chetty was in his kitchen preparing breakfast when he was attacked.
Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said a man entered the house through a toilet window. A scuffle ensued when Chetty tried to defend himself against the intruder. His son, Suri, said his father was struck several times with the club. He also cut his foot when he stepped on shattered glass.
“My mother was unharmed during the incident. My dad was badly bashed up. He had to receive stitches to cuts on his head and arms. A nurse living on the road was alerted and she stabilised him,” Chetty said.
Chetty was taken to hospital for medical attention and later dishcharged.
Zwane said the robber took a laptop and wallet and fled.
A case of house robbery is being investigated by Mayville SAPS.
