The KZN education department has rescheduled the matric trial exams, after striking Sadtu members disrupted exams at some schools.
|||Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal education department has rescheduled its timetable for the matric trial exams, spokesman Muzi Mahlambi said on Tuesday.
Mahlambi said the Grade 12 trial exams would start on Wednesday and a new timetable had been issued.
According to media reports matric trials were disrupted in the province on Monday as some schools were prevented from collecting trial papers and papers were not sent to schools.
SA Democratic Teachers' Union provincial secretary Mbuyiseni Mathonsi said the union had implemented its “work to rule” action on Monday after the department failed to meet its demands.
The union is demanding that head of department Nkosinathi Sishi be suspended and that a performance evaluation be done on his work.
They also want to be refunded money docked from the salaries of teachers who participated in a strike in 2011.
Mathonzi said adult basic education and training teachers were also still paid according to the 2011 scales.
On Thursday Sadtu gave the department until Sunday to meet its demands.
“When the department saw they could not meet our demands, it decided to send out a circular to officials to postpone trial exams,” Mathonsi said.
The union met education MEC Senzo Mchunu about the matter on Monday.
