KZN residents should not pack up their coats just yet, because icy weather is still a possibility in August.

Durban - This year’s winter had been a dry one, the South African Weather Services said.

“Each year comes with its different weather patterns, and KwaZulu-Natal has had some weak cold fronts,” forecaster Lucky Makhwedzha said yesterday.

Areas such as the berg, Mooi River, and Kokstad, which had the lowest temperatures at 4ºC, had snow-covered hills and valleys after an air trough from the Eastern Cape ensured a chilly start to the weekend.

Makhwedzha warns that KZN residents should not pack up their coats just yet, because icy weather is still a possibility in August. “Looking at our climate, in August, it is still possible to get a bit more cold weather and snow,” he said.

This week, however, residents can expect sunny to cool weather, with possible rain later on in the week in the coastal regions. We will just have to wait and see if the temperature drops again.
