An 84-year-old Pietermaritzburg woman has survived two attacks in her home within a week.
|||Durban - An 84-year-old Pietermaritzburg woman has survived two attacks in her home within a week.
The woman was confronted by three men in her home in Scottsville on Saturday, at about midday.
“The suspects forced open the kitchen door, shoved her around and stole R4 000 cash before they fled,” said police spokeswoman, Lieutenant Joey Jeevan.
The woman reported the incident, but that was not the end of her woes. Her attackers returned at about 8.30am on Wednesday, and assaulted her as she worked in her garden.
Jeevan said the men forced her back into the house and tied her to a chair, after which they ransacked the house.
A short while later, the victim’s 54-year-old neighbour arrived to visit. She was also attacked.
The assailants then left with various household items.
The victims were taken to a local clinic for treatment. They are receiving counselling.
About half an hour after the attack yesterday, police saw three men walking along Golf Road, Scottsville, carrying a large suitcase and several bundles.
One of the men started to run when approached by the police, but they were arrested with the help of one of the K9 unit’s dogs.
It is believed the suspects may be linked to several other house robberies in and around Pietermaritzburg.
The men, aged between 20 and 24, were expected to appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court this week.
