|||Durban - A KwaZulu-Natal man and his mother were convicted by the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court on Wednesday of robbery and defeating the ends of justice.
Alvin Naidoo, 28, was jailed for five years for being part of the gang involved in the robbery in the town last year, police spokesman Captain Thulani Zwane said.
Naidoo's mother Joy Ramothar was found guilty of defeating the ends of justice for telling police he had been murdered when police arrived at their home looking for him.
Naidoo was eventually found in Isipingo and Ramothar was arrested. Naidoo had several other cases pending against him in the Eastern Cape. His mother would remain in custody until her sentencing on June 6. - Sapa
