An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Chatsworth schoolboy and the attempted murder of his older brother.
|||Durban - AN 18-year-old, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Chatsworth schoolboy and the attempted murder of his older brother, is set to appear in court on Thursday.
Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said last night that the brothers were allegedly stabbed by seven people on Sunday.
Dareshan Moodley, 16, was stabbed to death while his 18-year-old brother Revarsheen, was taken to RK Khan Hospital for treatment.
“It is alleged that an argument arose between the victims and the suspects,” Zwane said.
Both Moodley brothers of Road 749, Montford, Chatsworth, were set upon by what their father, Jayce, described as “a gang” after they had been to the Chatsworth Fair.
Their father told the Daily News on Sunday night by the time he got to the scene, Dareshan was dead and Revarsheen was lying in the road struggling to breathe.
Both attended the nearby Welbedene Secondary School, and their father maintained that the tragedy had its roots in a recent incident when a teenager had picked a fight with Dareshan and pulled a knife on him at school.
The family had complained to the school.
The principal was in a meeting yesterday and could not be reached for a comment.
Department of Education spokesman, Muzi Mahlambi, said last week three pupils had died so far this year as a result of pupil-on-pupil violence, while last year, 22 were killed in KZN.
