|||Durban - Three members of the African National Congress including a pregnant woman survived a shooting on Tuesday night by unknown assailants in Umtshezi, KwaZulu-Natal, the party said.
“According to the police reports, the assailants entered into a house and opened fire,” said provincial spokesman Senzo Mkhize on Wednesday.
Two people sustained critical injuries, including the pregnant woman who lost her unborn child. The third sustained minor injuries.
The attack happened in Wembezi township's C Section around 7pm.
Last month Sibusiso Majola, the chairman of an ANC branch in Umtshezi, was killed.
In August last year Jimmy Lembede, a ward councillor in the municipality, was killed and his 11-year-old son was assaulted.
Lembede was also an ANC member.
“The ANC is shocked by these shameful attacks.
“We condemn them and we urge our law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are successfully prosecuted,” Mhize said. - Sapa
